MLB Diamond Inc. - Game UI Systems Development
As Senior UI/UX Lead at Magmic Inc, I joined MLB Diamond Inc mid-development with a mandate to elevate both the player experience and the overall design framework. My first priority was to assess the existing build, drafting a comprehensive report that benchmarked the title against leading sports and idle franchises and provided actionable recommendations for improvement.
From there, I redefined the game’s UI direction, overseeing the redesign of critical systems including the pregame matchup and results screens, team selection, tier rewards progression, stadium building, and the in-game store. A key strategic decision was to establish a retro-arcade visual identity, borrowing from Vegas-style sports slot machines to align with management’s vision for a Web3/NFT-driven framework.
One of the central challenges was unifying the UI across diverse mechanics—city-building, team management, arcade mini-games, and idle loops—into a single cohesive system. By balancing high-level direction with hands-on design, I ensured the delivery of production-ready assets while also positioning the UI as an interactive vertical slice that showcased the capabilities of the Magmic Art & Design team. This role not only reinforced my ability to drive design execution, but also highlighted my growth in setting vision, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and aligning creative solutions with broader business goals.
Initial Home screen mockup for how it would look for new players
Pre-game matchup screen where the power level for 2 teams are displayed and user get to select the pitcher for this matchup.
One of my main redesign item is the team select screen new user would come across when they first signed onto the game. The goal here is to reference the UX from fighting games when you select your character.
The prize ladder screen where the progression shows what they would get as a Free-to-play user compared to a season pass holder.
Team schedule screen referencing a familiar layout for user from MLB sport sims title such as THE SHOW from console side.
The Stadium expansion screen with initial user tutorial UI to show user currencies earned from playing games can also expand into upgrading the aesthetics of the players' home stadium
Redesigned store screen to match the aesthetic and flow of other major screens (such as the left navi UI panel)
Player upgrade screen showcasing the detail look for the player NFT with stats. This is also where the player can do team adjustments such a s release, trade or swap players.
